I’m called Katie, but was christened Kathryn and this is how BYKATHRYN came about.

I’ve done many things in my life. I’ve represented Great Britain in dressage and eventing, I’ve been a business consultant, a groundsman for a tree surgeon, an avid Formula One fan, a marathon runner, an entrepreneur. Throughout all these different experiences, I’ve worn perfume; the backdrop to the different chapters in my life.

This love of perfume inspired me to design my own. Soon it grew into a desire to create a fragrance brand; a Brand that real people can identify with.

Some impulses just can’t be ignored.

And so BYKATHRYN was born. It seemed fitting to use only my (full) first name, no surname required, as the idea originated from my own personal journey. Working with the talented John Stephens from The Cotswolds Perfumery, we created PETROLHEAD, my first flagship perfume. Hot on the heels of that came my second perfume, PADSTOW ROCKS, to celebrate my life long love of Cornwall and all things coastal. The sea is so magical and vibrant I had to encapsulate it here.

And so the stage was set.

As a former sportswoman, it was important to me to align my fragrances with a vibe and an attitude, as opposed to the norm of aligning with fashion and celebrity, or with day and night. Alongside creating a Brand I had a vision to take that Brand and support women in sport who depict these vibes. I believe there is a role for more businesses to support sportswomen and as a result there would be a wider range or product choice to interest the rapidly growing demographic of female sporting fans. For example I love F1 and would love a choice of merchandise that was ….erm…less petrolheady and more PETROLHEAD!

Our sense of smell is most closely tied to our memories and perfume can transport us back to fun times, instantaneously. I wanted to encourage people to wear scent as they go about their lives, pushing boundaries and having adventures; to match our perfumes with their vibe. The “scent track” to life.

Scent is my life inspiration in a bottle. I hope it becomes yours too.
